A utilização da categoria Restos Mortais Identificados (RMI) no Banco Nacional de Perfis Genéticos brasileiro

Abstract
In recent years, the Integrated Network of DNA Databases (RIBPG) has promoted the clarification of several crimes by cross-referencing genetic information obtained in official forensic laboratories, becoming an effective tool for promoting justice and public safety in Brazil. The elucidation of criminal cases from the coincidences generated between traces (a category of genetic profiles of questioned samples) and Identified Human Remains (a category of genetic profiles of reference biological samples) was made possible after the approval of Resolution No. 11 of the RIBPG Steering Committee on July 1, 2019 and has grown exponentially over the years. This paper presents the use of the category of genetic profiles known as Identified Mortal Remains, in Brazil, and what is the relationship of this category with the DNA Databases in other countries, since this is a category that originated in Brazil from a need of the country to treat differently in the legal sphere, living people and deceased people, when both have known identity. The main information for this work was obtained from questionnaires applied to the administrators responsible for the DNA Databases of the States, the Federal Police and the Federal District, and through the biannual reports of RIBPG.
