Editorial: Police Psychology
Main Article Content
Abstract
The knowledge coming from psychology and the intervention of the psychologist in police organisations are internationally recognised as crucial to improving the quality of police service delivery. The permanent development of new technologies and their application to police problems requires an increasing sophistication of police professionals in the use of decision-making, risk perception and management, communication, leadership, and research skills. Selecting the most competent, as well as planning and designing education and training for the police officers that will be in place by the middle of the 21st century, implies that police managers and leaders welcome the knowledge coming from the field of psychology. This is the first dossier dedicated to Police Psychology in the Revista Brasileira de Ciências Policiais, presenting research on the importance of the human factor in police organizations and interventions, and the centrality of the study of decision-making in the scope of police action.
