Use of automated reports of deforestation alerts to improve the environmental criminal investigative process
Main Article Content
Abstract
Facing a situation where there are more and more restrictions of resources and an increase in the rate of illegal deforestation in the country, we sought in the computer tools the answer to the analysis of thousands of deforestation alerts that are produced annually from the Amazon Forest. The automation can improve the management and productivity, thus, the creation of an Automated Reports of Deforestation Alerts, with deforestation alerts obtained from Planet/Dove images of high spatial resolution and daily temporal resolution, provides subsidies for the elaboration of Police Information and Expert Reports with timeliness and robustness. In the fight against crimes of illegal deforestation and its correlates crimes, just increasing the number of enforcement agents and police is not capable of producing the resultspoorly relevant, besides the high operational cost. The use of methodologies that use technological tools should be one of the main policies to be implemented by the police and environmental management agencies. The acceleration of the time spent from the beginning of the criminal investigative process until the trial, can decrease the feeling of impunity related to environmental crimes in Brazil.
