Intelligence-Led Policing e sua Possibilidade de Implementação no Brasil
Main Article Content
Abstract
The dynamics of current criminality impose on public security agencies to embrace measures that allow them more rational and efficient employment of their scarce resources. In this scenario, intelligence is presented as an important advisory tool providing managers with reliable and opportune knowledge. Therefore, this paper, based on several published studies, identifies the main positive aspects and main difficulties related to intelligence-led policing (ILP). The main conclusions are the effectiveness of the ILP in reducing criminality, the greater understanding of crime by the policemen, the greater integration between agencies, and the improvement of the relationship with the community. On the other hand, difficulties related to the understanding of what the ILP is, the training of professionals, and the quality of the information collected and stored are identified. Despite the existence of a minimum normative background related to the activity of Public Safety Intelligence, for a full application of this method in Brazil, there is a need for better regulation of this policing method, adapted to the structure of the Brazilian public security system and the competencies of their institutions.
